Guru Made Sumantra , your words and teachings guide me. Suksma

allow the radiance to emanate.
Zooming into a yoga instruction experience is definitely different from being on the mat next to your teacher. The availability of ‘hands on’ and individual guidance, as well as connecting with a yoga community, is part of what brings us back to our yoga teacher’s classes regularly.
Our ‘new normal’ is not permitting us to meet face to face so, I think, we now focus on the benefits of experiencing yoga instruction live, online or recorded.
Live and online with your teacher is another type of yoga learning experience. It doesn’t mean it is to be exclusive to all other ways of experiencing yoga but it may just be your best option for the here and now.
It is accessible, it’s private ( you don’t have to have your video on). In a group class I always encourage you to practice at your own pace and with modifications. It seems with the privacy and comfort of practising at home, while I facilitate a live session, students are truly going with the flow and their practice is actually becoming more individualised and suited to their current condition.
Many of you are doing more yoga, not less, and that has to be a great outcome! The opportunity to practice live together reinforces commitment to our practice and is a great motivator (I think we all have Yoga DVDs somewhere but the challenge is to play them!!).
The welcome and farewell Namaste ? at beginning and end of each class maintains or newly facilitates a connected feeling and it’s lovely to see/hear the exchanges between students/friends during those times.
So my answer is that YES I believe the online live classes are good just like ‘real’ classes are good, they are simply different.
My students agree and are consistently showing up each week or several times each week and we are all expanding our practice.
Namaste Yoga has been providing the classes by donation for the past month. Regular students have continued to commit to their investment in wellness and utilised existing yoga passes purchased pre Covid-19 or purchased new class passes at the ‘real’ class rates.
New students have donated varying amounts and, once settled into this as a new way to practice, have committed to purchasing class passes.
Only a few have attended at no cost, they know yoga is a priority but their new, less secure, circumstances means short term they can’t afford it.
Some regular students have contributed to the ‘pay it forward’ so this has subsidised and supported those that have temporarily lost income.
Moving forward Namaste Yoga returns to payments of fees as opposed to ‘donations’ for classes.
This is my small business and I’ve done my best to create an online space where quality yoga experiences are available. Now, more than a month in, if my business is to be sustainable then yoga fees need to be collected just as at a ‘real’ class.
These online live classes are very real and I am enjoying the challenge. There are some days where I feel it has required far more of me to teach this way than face to face.
A heartfelt thank you to those that have been with me from my first nervous Face Book Live on 25th March (barely a month ago!) and/or my first experiment with Zoom Live on 27th March and/or my first week of launching my ‘Zoom into Namaste Yoga’ Classes from 30th March 2020.
Our ‘Zoom into Namaste Yoga’ Facebook group is 86 members strong and I am so proud of us all who, this time last month, barely knew what Zoom was and are now flicking on our devices matter of factly waiting to practice yoga together.
Namaste and Yoga Love, Nicole
A recorded live class is available if you can’t make the live times, same fee as for live classes. The class and it’s unique password is available for one week.
It has always been my practice to make classes affordable and I understand circumstances change. Please let me know via text, Messenger or email if you are not able to afford these fees and we just work out what is possible for you: a smaller payment, donation or no payment.
Available at present are a few subsidised or ‘no cost’ classes supported by Namaste Yoga and students that have contributed to a ‘pay it forward’ initiative.
If you prefer to pay via EFT:
Nurture Works BSB: 637-000. Account No: 717803922
Nicole will notify you when your ‘Pay it Forward’ Class has been donated.
